Uncommon Collectibles

Overview

Real Sportscards sought a customized and efficient platform that catered to customer needs and allowed for easy scalability. In response, we launched The Uncommon App, meeting user requirements from ideation to technology implementation. The platform significantly improved event hosting efficiency, reducing preparation time for live breaks from hours to just 30 minutes.

As a result, the company anticipates a 10-20% cost reduction and a 25% increase in revenue by converting labor hours into livestream revenue-generating hours daily. The platform's popularity among collectors and breakers also creates new revenue opportunities, as non-affiliated hosts can utilize it as well.

Discovery

The project kicked off with two discovery sessions, during which the client and team engaged in various activities to map out the project and narrow down its scope to an MVP. Following the discovery phase, the team swiftly created a prototype based on our findings, establishing a baseline for the project. This prototype then served as a foundation for developing wireframes for both the admin and collector sides of the platform.

Break Creation

Breaks are the key element for the business. Users get into a break by purchasing spots or teams in hopes of getting a rare card for their collection. In order to display these breaks on the collectors side of the platform, we needed an efficient way to create them on the admin side. Breaks can be created from scratch or a template that the admin team can set up and manage. Once created, the users can publish the break right away or save it as a draft to publish later.

Robust Chat

Community is at the heart of Uncommon's values. Previously, they utilized Facebook for card breaks and aimed to replicate that strong sense of community on the new platform. While chat fosters communication, there can be instances of excessive interaction. To address this, we developed a feature that empowers breakers to moderate the chat effectively. With options for timeouts, muting, blocking, and banning, we ensure a positive and respectful environment for all users.

Break Purchasing

Before breaks go live, they are typically teased, giving collectors the chance to show interest in purchasing slots or watching the break. Users can opt in for notifications, alerting them when the break is open for buying or when it becomes live. Once the break is dropped, users are given a 5-minute countdown, starting from their first selection, to secure their desired teams or spots before the break commences.

Channels

Collectors have the ability to follow their favorite channels and subscribe to notifications for their preferred breaks. Additionally, channels offer updates to collectors about when their favorite channel and hosts will be live next.

Account Settings

Users have the flexibility to modify their personal information, adjust notifications, and add credits to their accounts for breaks. If collectors feel they are spending too much on collecting, they have the option to pause or delete their account. Pausing allows them to choose a duration of 1 week, 30, 60, or 90 days. Even if an account is paused, collectors can still engage with the Uncommon community by watching breaks and participating in live chat sessions.
